Our History

The Amicus ITS story starts in 1988 when four leading IT industry professionals formed Second Generation Computer Systems Ltd (2GL) specialising in accounting solutions designed for IBM XT and AT personal computers. From this humble platform, 2GL developed to become one of the largest independent IT systems integrators on the South Coast.

By 2000, with revenues in excess of £35 million and over 200 employees, 2GL’s board agreed, that a broader range of services would enhance its business and, in April 2000, it acquired Bristol based Counterpoint Computing - a Citrix and Software Development specialist. In October, the same year, 2GL merged with leading business process consultancy firm, World Class International. The new organisation – WCI - offered customers complete solutions; from Prince2 led consulting projects, through design, development, implementation and management of complex, resilient Microsoft infrastructures.

In 2002 a MBO by Sales and Commercial Directors formed WCI Technology which, three years later, became Amicus Technology Limited. The remaining activities of WCI undertook similar re-branding.

The IT services division of WCI which operated the successful and commended ITIL-aligned managed service for NHS Direct, was incorporated as Harmoni ITS by joint venture with Harmoni CPO. Harmoni’s pedigree in Clinical Process Outsourcing is at the forefront of the Department of Health’s Out of Hours GP Service. WCI Consulting Ltd continues in business today, under new ownership, focusing on business consultancy services within supply chain, health and pharmaceutical markets.

In 2007, shareholders identified that a merger of Harmoni ITS and Amicus Technology would yield significant benefits to customers by enhancing an increased range of services. Amicus ITS limited was formed in October and the organizations were fully integrated by the end of March 2008.
